The research interests of the project members are concentrated in two areas. The work of Werner Frey, André Meinunger and Tonjes Veenstra is primarily concerned with the syntax-semantics/discourse interface in German and in Creole languages. Important points of common interest are sources of mismatch in syntactic and semantic integration of object clauses, epistemic and speech act related adverbials, and serial verbs. The work of Fatima Hamlaoui concerns the phonology-syntax interface in Bantu languages. An important point of common interest is the effect of syntactic and semantic complexity on prosodic accent and prosodic phrasing.
