Heather Weston successfully defended her thesis

11.12.2023

Congratulations to Heather Weston, former ZAS staff member in the DFG/ANR project "SALAMMBO - Spoken language in motions: Learning and adaptation of speech communication in the context of body motions", on the successful defence of her dissertation in General Linguistics at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. In her dissertation, "Speech during physical activity: Respiratory, laryngeal and supralaryngeal characteristics," she investigated the effect of physical activity on each level of the speech production mechanism in comparison to speech at rest. In addition to reporting on significant changes in breathing, voicing and articulation, Weston presented an in-depth study of speaker variation, revealing a variety of acoustic profiles in speech during exercise.
